RUSH HOUR SHOP TOP TIP

Here are some of the highlights of what we have in store for you this week (week 26).

First up is Everaldo Marcial (Évé)’s beautiful ‘Canto Aberto’, a highly sought-after MPB album that was recorded and released during exile in Paris in the late seventies, remastered from the original mastertapes and restored to show all its true colours. For fans of Egberto Gismonti, Nana Vasconselos, Milton Nascimento and Piry Reis.

Up next is a new release by seminal soul, funk, disco and boogie production legend Patrick Adams (Inner Life, Mark IV, Musique, Phreek, Universal Robot Band) under his legendary Cloud One guise. ‘You Make Me Feel So Good’ is a timeless party starter that will soon be all over a festival near you. File under ‘instant classic’.

Lucky number three is another bonafide classic in the form of Tempo Dischi’s first ever reissue of the sought-after remix of Alexander Robotnick’s 1984 italo disco anthem ‘Computer Sourire’, backed here by a different cut of the same tune and the seminal ‘Dance Boy Dance’. Essential stuff!

We’re moving into house territory with Yoshifumi Sodeyama’s new album ‘1977’ as The People in Fog for Sound of Vast, his first longplayer in almost a decade.

The vibes are strong on Strata-East stalwart Shamek Farrah’s ‘La Dee La La’ for Paul Murphy's Jazz Room Records, an album that was recorded by an impressive all star cast that features trumpet legend Malachi Thompson.

"‘Septet’ sees the widely acclaimed keyboardist and composer lead a band to perform a new suite of works. Second album for Stones Throw following ‘My Garden’

Deep spiritual vibes can be found on the Jef Gilson-led ‘Madagascar Now’, that combines spiritual jazz with influences and instrumentation from Madagascar and Réunion - it’s a trip!

Analog Africa returns to Latin America with a collection of mostly instrumental compositions by Peruvian guitar virtuoso Manzanita - a nice follow-up to Ranil’s Peruvian cumbia compilation that came out last year.

Four swirling, atmospheric, thumping and pumping deephouse tracks on one EP -  that’s the best way to describe part one of the new Navigators series on Excedo. Now that’s bang for your buck.

The same goes for DTR 313 - a clear case of value for money, in this case focusing on funky Detroit techno with strong contributions by Scan 7, Orlando Voorn, Lost Trax and Rogue Chemist.
