Although hes only had a handful of releases since his debut on the Detroit label Matrix in 1995, Convextion has remained a by word amongst the techno upper-crust for his brand of cerebral, passionate, fantastically textured music, and has garnered a cult following -- including DJs ranging from Derrick May & Kenny Larkin to Danny Tenaglia & Swayzak. The evolution of his sound reflects his roving infatuation with great sonic architects: he was inspired early on by the Cocteau Twins, Joy Division and early 4AD releases, and later discovered the beauty of Derrick Mays strings, Virgos basslines, the Burrell Bros. grooves, Juan Atkins Deep Space vistas and the relentless pulse and mesmerizing echoes of Basic Channel (which catalyzed the Convextion sound after he heard it played by Paul Johnson one night at a club).
