VENTING STEAM EP by MAT CARTER

Originally released in 2002 as part of a split EP on Firewire Recordings, Mat Carter’s Venting Steam EP gets the remaster and reissue treatment via Varial to remedy the hiked up prices of the original on the second hand market. 

Sci-fi inflected electro with a techno sensibility, there’s a nice range of sub genres across four cohesive tracks. There’s tunnelling lofi techno on ‘Tallon Drive’, swaggy electro on ‘Solid Gear’ and iced-out breaks on ‘Venting Steam’. Standout track ‘Muted Point’ builds a dope groove out of what kind of sounds like aux cable distortion, filtered and decorated with fx.
