Niger's Mdou Moctar is finally back on Sahel Sounds with his fifth LP for Christopher Kirkley's Portland-based powerhouse.Moctar is known as a Tuareg, or rather "a group of nomadic pastoralist peoples inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa in Algeria, Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali and Niger", meaning that this music has no one face or province. It is the expression of different socialites and points of view. If you're like us, that alone is enough to buy on sight. Thankfully, the music really is a wonderful experience that spans from the guitar-led solos of Moctar to shadowy swarms of organic percussion.
