Description

"Rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions, Roda de Santo blends energetic percussion, layered vocals, deep grooves, and electronic textures into a captivating sound where sacred rhythm meets joy, and where the past connects with the present."

Lisbon-based collective Roda de Santo release their debut self-titled EP via independent label CONCHA. Formed by Brazilian musicians Alvaro Lancellotti, Karla da Silva, Sara Cabral, Juninho Ibituruna and Bartolo, the group fuses ancestral Umbanda chants with contemporary sounds, preserving sacred traditions while opening them to new audiences. With four original tracks saluting Exu, Pretos Velhos, Iemanjá and Caboclos, the EP features contributions from Domenico Lancellotti, Joana Egypto and the women’s choir of Ẹgbẹ́ Mẹ́rìndínlógún Ọṣún.

The EP features special contributions that enrich its sonic palette. Long-time collaborators Domenico Lancellotti adds MPC textures, while founding member Joana Egypto brings her unmistakable terreiro-like vocal timbre. A highlight is the participation of the women’s choir from the terreiro Ẹgbẹ́ Mẹ́rìndínlógún Ọṣún, whose voices evoke the tradition of historic Umbanda choirs such as Coral Filhos de Oxóssi.
