The second of two live performances recorded in New York's newly constructed Philharmonic Hall served as the basis for Miles Davis' 1965 album My Funny Valentine. The performance, which featured mostly slow and mid-tempo songs, created a tense and uncomfortable situation for Davis and the most recent incarnation of his quintet as they began their highest-profile event at the exact moment that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. By the time the concert was through, they were so tense that they thought they had blown the entire event and ruined their performance.
Thankfully, Davis and his band were mistaken. The recordings on My Funny Valentine were praised by critics rather than failing,
