Description

'I watch you drown, with neutral eyes, I caught you up with hate that you have never heard - But it's only words'.Alex Rendall spins a delicate web of words over a chilling beat, rich in texture and detail, created by the crate-digging producer Amos Childs, collectively known as JABU of the Young Echo collective. The pair collaborate on the first vinyl release on the No Corner label to tell two sonic tales of love and loss - one that everyone can relate to, put in suitably abstract terms. Rendall's voice paints a vivid picture of after-hours melancholy, backed by delicately effected percussion and haunting pads. The flip side -You & I, a JABU set staple has been remixed by anotherYoung Echo member, Kahn. Retaining the delicate textures of the original, Rendall's voice softens and his wordplay becomes even more effortless - 'Those nights, the world trying to look in through closed blinds...sweat and cold wine'. Words flow over a swung beat with ease, a more upbeat cut than the A-side but still hinting at the ocean of melancholy that floated the idea for both these tracks. 'Time will erase the impression of her face, always been an addict for words from my first days, can't talk your way into love it's an absurd place.' Both tracks occupy a space between the abstract beats and lyrics of the Anticon camp and the rich history of Bristol Trip-Hop. Racking up several thousand plays in a matter of days on Soundcloud, the future is bright for JABU.
