MGR RMX by MEG
Description
Joint Records comes up with its latest selection of remixes commissioned by Japanese Major labels, selected and coordinated by Third Ear. Mgrmx was an in-house project at Warner Japan. Meg is a slightly left-of-centre, although still very mainstream, Japanese female singer. So here the remix pack with mixes coming from a wide range of artists that makes it really versatile package (filed under 'house' here... )
A1 is Kouro, remixed by Theo Parrish. All the classic Theo Parrish ingredients are here: on an easy pace, the track slowly builds up with a balance of sounds and electronic samples, deep strings and trademark shuffle blended with Megs lazy vocals.
A2 is Scanty Blues remixed by Dennis DeSantis. Dennis DeSantis (K20) into a deep, looping techno groove.
B1 is Kouro again, this time remixed by Hiroshi Watana.be ( also going under thename of Kaito, TREAD; released on labels like Third Ear, kompakt, Ibadan, Lifeline etc ). He comes with a more smooth approach like his remix he did for Larry Heard on LifeLine
B2 is Roomgirl, remixed by Christ, whose Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle album on the Benbecula label was a impresssive electronic release last year. Christ takes Meg into the back room with this Ambientrix remix, for a hit of something rich and dark.
C1 is Ikenaikotokai remixed by Valou, a young duo from Tokyo. An epic, which starts from gentle Rhodes piano, and gets more intense later on with jazzy drums and building strings.
C2 is Ikenaikotokai remixed by another Tokyo-based newcomer, Yamauchi. Remixing the same track as Valou, Yamauchi takes a different route. Nice beat programming here, a hint of Hammond and warm, laidback strings to go with the vocals.
D1 is Scanty Blues, remixed by DJ Assault. The fragile vocals are placed under a db like beat with a synthie bassline and short samples of a horns section.
D2 is Kouro again, remixed by Note Native also from Tokyo. The track is given a broken-beat feel. Dreamy keys carry the voice through fluffy clouds. Kicking snare and a soft-but-punchy bass give the track a nice laidback feel.
