This 1971 recording of The Southern University Jazz Ensemble from Baton Rouge Louisiana is an incredible Spiritual Jazz performance led by Alvin Batiste and features the Henry Butler Trio. This Private Press album is extremely rare and has deep roots in American Jazz, Soul Jazz & African Rhythms. Tip!Aside from original compositions, the album features great performances of Freddie Hubbard's "Straight Life," Miles Davis' "Milestones" and "Tunjii" by John Coltrane.
