Description

Deep Space Orchestra is the recording pseudonym for a long-standing series of collaborations between Chris Barker and Si Murray, who met in 2005 while watching Joe Claussell and Danny Krivit spin at a Body & Soul night. Their music draws inspiration from classic house and techno as well as film soundtracks, sci-fi flicks, video games and a dark sense of humour.Barker started making beats at the age of 14 with an old Roland drum machine, later graduating to an MPC and an eclectic record collection to plunder. Cutting his teeth as a DJ at Birmingham's renowned Jigsaw Music and Leftfoot club nights, Chris has been spinning for a number of years appearing on the bill alongside luminaries such as Masters at Work, Adam Goldstone, Atjazz and Benji B. He is currently resident at Liverpool's Altiplano night alongside Kelvin Andrews, and has had solo releases on TrebleO records as well as Glasgow's Five20East. In the past year he has also completed remixes for Clyde and Tim Scott. Murray’s musical roots lie in Glasgow, where he promoted and DJed for the 'Good Vibrations' sound system with a group of like-minded individuals including Graeme Clark aka The Revenge. This led to an inevitable interest in production, leading to the collaborations with Chris and also with The Revenge under the Cronk Family Enterprises moniker.
