This compilation focuses on Joe Gibbs tracks- and productions from 1975 - 1983. From very soulful reggae to hard dubs ( oa taken from his 'African acts' albums !). If you look at these tracks as a whole, an impressive range of artists from the jamaican musical community is involved one way or the other: Errol Thompson, Sly&Robbie, Dennis Brown, Joe Tex etc. As the (ever informative) inlay suggests, the music from this period was shaped by 3 main ingredients: Sly Dunbar's unique drum playing, making the tracks sound militant and streetwise; the re-playing of classic Studio One rhythms, making the music sound fresh and updated, and finally the adding of a dub version to the flip of a single as well as incorporating dub sounds on the main track of a single.
