Description
Vol. 7 in the series is the synth ensemble of David Borden, James Ferraro, Samuel Godin, Laurel Halo, and Daniel Lopatin.
At the heart of this collaboration is David Borden, founder of Mother Mallard’s Portable Masterpiece Co. and a modest progenitor to the modern implementation of the synthesizer across the spectrum of electronic and experimental music.
When RVNG and Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) began discussing this collaboration, Borden’s MMPMC as well as his seminal solo album Music for Amplified Keyboards were mutually / ecstatically acknowledged. After a couple Skype video calls with Borden from his Ithaca, NY studio (a Moog Voyager pillar-like in the background), the collaboration was on its way.
Given the nature of Borden’s work, primarily based in ensemble form and geared towards counterpoint orchestration, it became imperative that the project expand to include other players in order to harness this creative output. Enter Halo, Ferraro, and Godin. Each synthetic innovators in their own right and by their own invention. Each key ingredients in this cosmic brew.
Crammed into DUMBO Brooklyn's Atlantic Sound Studio, the scene of past Frkwys collaborations (see Arp & Anthony Moore), the collective locked into the studio (and locked out the world) to depart into midi transcendence. The quintet spent two days playing infinitely, yielding hours of recordings. The five pieces of Frkwys Vol. 7 represent full takes from different parts of these recordings, tweaked only for polarity. The bonus track, "Just A Little Pollution", is a session moment reconstructed by Godin as an homage to Halo's stunning vocal takes.
The limited edition LP version of Frkwys Vol. 7 is packaged in thick black jackets with a two-color adhesive wrap.Borden, Ferraro, Godin, Halo & Lopatin - People of the Wind Pt. 2 by RVNG Intl.
