Description
From the deep, deep crates of one of New York City's DJ heroes comes an EP of hard-to-find Brazilian heaters. Tip!Things kick off with "Bate Na Palma Da Mao", an exclusive in the form of a collaboration between Brazilian MC Gabriel O Pensador and Itaal Shur (ex-Groove Collective and co-writer of Santana's "Smooth"). Originally produced in 2006, this track has been driving dancers beserk for several years in the few places that they're lucky enough to hear it. Next up is "Beija-Flor" by Salvador, Bahia's Timbalada here in a dancefloor-scorching dancehall mix from 1997, also highly in demand. The legendary Tom Ze follows things up, once again making his presence felt with the pounding, relentless "Xique-Xique" from his 1998 release "Fabrication Defect."
On the flip, Jiva is a band that has been one of the shining lights of the Atlanta music scene for a few years now, presenting a highly accomplished fusion of R&B, samba, jazz, funk and magically spiritual fairy dust - their track "Sol e Lua" is a short-and-sweet poyrhythmic banger from their masterful 2007 release "Day Into Night." Followed closely by Argentinean keyboardist-composer-producer Dario Boente, one of New York's best-kept secrets (having played and/or collaborated with a wide range of people including Masters At Work). His signature track is 2006's "Sabes Que?"
If that's not enough, the 12" takes a dip into the 80s with the great Almir Ricardi and his classic boogie stomper "To Parado Na Tua" from 1984. And finally, making its vinyl debut (like everything else on this EP) is "Patidid," a crazily infectious jazz-funk instrumental from 2005 by the one and only Ed Motta.
These tracks have heretofore been available only on CD, or in the case of the Gabriel track, not at all.
