Beautiful ( first time ) reissue of this 1978 El Saturn LP on the UK Art Yard label that is dedicated to making the Sun Ra's lesser known works available again. The music on this LP is drawn from various performances and sessions that Sun Ra did in the winter of '77 & '78 during his stay in Italy. On this album the instrumentation is more sparse than usually; instead of his Arkestra, this is a 5 person set up. Sun Ra: piano, moog, synth & rhythm machine / John Gilmore: saxophone, vocals / Machael Rey: Trumpet, vocals and Luqman Ali : drums, vocals. The music on this album belongs to the more electronic Sun Ra output. Quoting the liner notes as in describing the musical content: ' relatively open structures, with relatively few predetermined sections. Sun Ra steers the pieces with keyboard interventions. Melodic sections are introduced, evolve, are reprised. Most notably, bass patterns are used for lengthy sessions - something new in Ra's music at this time'.
This is a well taken care of (limited) reissue with two rare photographs taken by Val Wilmer and liner notes on the inner sleeve.
