2 chirpy and dare we say 'groovy!' little tributes to the man like Serge.40 years after Serge Gainsbourg shocked (and aroused) the world with the infamous Je t'aime... moi non plus, a bunch of bands from the Lowlands remind us that the French provocateur left one hell of musical legacy. Gainsbourg died in 1991, but his sultry, strange and even soulful songs live on. The Gainsnord album pays Serge respect via 18 chansons, most of them especially recorded for the album, to which you can dance, rock, lounge and of course, smoke to. Serge's psychedelic side is represented, the heartfelt ballads are there, the beatnik-jazz and oui, bien sur, the eroticism. Northern Soul- and Sixties Beat-DJ's like Germany's Martin Hemmel, Holland's Natashenka, Belgium's Ungawa and Portugal's Laurent Réus responded very, very enthusiastic to Gainsnord, so two tracks are pressed on vinyl now. Amsterdam-based boogaloo-band Juicebox have singer Geraldine put her chocolate-drenched vocals to Chatterton, with it's irresistable hookline. Fellow Amsterdamians Les Spinshots, fronted by the super sensual Flora Dolores, blast their rhythm-and-bluesy way through the poptastic Qui est 'in', qui est 'out'.
