Description
Superb selection from the Soul Vendors era. An early run-out for FM's Bandulo rhythm to start; connoisseur monsters like Rave All Night and I Make a Woman; Mittoo murder like Sure Shots.Although Clement Dodd wasn' t quite the first Jamaican record label proprietor, producer or sound system owner, he was nevertheless the first man to realise that allot these elements not only complemented, but positively reinforced each other. His love of Jazz and Rhythm & Blues had led him to establish his 'Coxsone Downbeat' sound, and his desire to outclass his rivals drove him to record songs and instrumentals by local Jamaican artists that could serve as 'exclusive' records that the other sound men could not have access to. By 1960 he was issuing the tunes on his own 'Worldisc' and All Stars' imprints, and the success of these early releases paved the way for the birth of his own recording studio - "Studio 1"
