Repetition Study I: imagine being is an album in four movements, performed by Megan Alice Clune during her 2024 European tour. It premiered at the 2024 Meakusma Festival. Using her voice, piano, clarinet, and delay and reverb pedals, Clune sculpts these four pieces on the edge of contemplation. Stand at the window once more. Internalise everything. Soft, vast, sublime.

A trademark of Clune's compositional technique is that the musical elements that make up her music are far more upfront than what is so often common in today's contemporary music practice. There is repetition, but it is more confounding than it is trance-inducing. Things blossom open in a very direct way, and changes of register are minimal after. There is an immediate search for connection and understanding here that allows for a concrete physicality. All elements are always present; the surprise is in their pervasiveness. This is minimalist music in iconoclast form.

Musician, artist, and composer Megan Alice Clune explores the dynamic relationships between music, technology, the body, and temporality through composition, performance, and installation. She has released on Lawrence English's Room40 record label. Repetition Study I: imagine being is her first outing on Meakusma.

Clune’s music portrays an emotional depth through a minimal sonic palette, delicately balancing textures that are at times rich, at times sparse. She draws from a unique combination of techniques and processes, from her training as a classical clarinetist to an interest in conceptualism and the avant-garde in both visual art and music.
