REGGAE LEGENDS (BOXSET) by YELLOWMAN

VP's Reggae legends series turns it's attention to the unique talent of Yellowman, one of the most recognisable voices and faces in the whole reggae canon, partly due to his position as the only Albino MC and Deejay in the genre, but much more importantly because of his immensely confident and distinctive style.This 4CD set includes his finest long players, 'Galong Galong Galong', 'Blueberry Hill', 'In Bed With Yellowman' and 'Yellowman's Good Sex Guide', rammed to the brim with stone cold 80's & 90's dancehall classics. 1985's 'Galong Galong Galong' was far from being his first album (he was releasing up to 5 a year until a battle with cancer in the late 80's), but includes the massive title track, alongside 'Under Mi Fat Thing', and a wicked revision of Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' giving him grief for having plastic surgery (and coming from an Albino - respect!). 1987's 'Blueberry Hill' has a slightly more conscious edge with 'Nah Pay No tax' and 'Young Girl Be Wise' over some seminal digital dancehall riddims. Yellowman was apparently also a bit of hit with the gyal dem, leading to 1993's 'In bed With Yellowman' packed with boastful lyrics from a man who sounds confident enough to pull it off and includes the '93 lick' version of his biggest track and a personal favourite 'Zungguzunngguguzungguzeng' and the killer 'Wine Wine'. "What The girls Love/Hard and Stiff" is the opening line to 'Big Dick', the first track on 1995's 'Yellowman's Good Sex Guide', not a part of the Jamaican national curriculum, but a wicked laugh anyway. The rest of the album's lyrical content is fairly self explanatory and the rhythms make a return to digital wickedness with some properly cheeky gems on 'Go Go Bell' and 'Cry Help'.
