Description

After Strut's Orlando Julius compilation, here's a new one with 8 ( 9 on the CD) different tracks on the Ekosound label. Info from the label explains that: 'Ekosound is a new label that is a collaboration between Soundway (Ghana Soundz) and Ekostar (Nu-Afrobeat Experience) records. Run by Kayode Samuel (Ekostar) and Miles Cleret (Soundway) it aims to present some of the great Nigerian recordings from the late Sixties to the present day. Orlando Julius has played with Hugh Masekela and worked on the musical score for Disneys The Lion King and also co-wrote the Lamont Dozier classic 'Going back to my roots'. 'The style of the Afro-Sounders is a fusion of Highlife, Jazz, Funk, and traditional Yoruba culture from the west of Nigeria. Driving powerful rhythms and stunning sax solos from Orlando himself, combined with elements of not only Yoruba culture but James Brown-style stand-up-and-be-counted mentality made these recordings a revolutionary and unique force at the time in Africa'. Apart from Alo Mi Alo this is the first time these tracks have been commercially available outside of Africa, and the first time they have been re-issued since the ultra-rare original records were pressed in small quantities over thirty years ago ! Again extensive sleeve notes with tons of info, well recommended !! Tracklisting: Home Sweet Home, Psychedelic Afro Shop, James Brown Ride On, Mura Sise, Esamei Sate, Alo Mi Alo, Ketekete Koro, New Apala Afro & Igebehin Adara
