Description
As a kid growing up in Cergy, France, 20 miles away from Paris, in the 80s and 90s, it's not really surprising that Antoine Chardayre, aka Dela, was immersed in the Hip-hop culture at an early age. Swapping CDs and cassettes with junior high school friends, it's classics like Enter The Wu-Tang and Midnight Marauders that makes him want to produce records. Having discovered a true passion, Dela spends the second half of the nineties learning about the craft of beat making, listening to his favorites, from A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, Large Professor, to the jazz artists they sampled.Fast forward to the new millenium, the young musician is trying step by step to build a name for himself, releasing vinyl 12s on independant labels such as Raw Fusion, Jazzy Sport, Melting Pot, Subcontact... alone or with his jazz band Soul Village. In 2002, he joins the Beat Fanatic collective (Illmind, 9th Wonder, Nicolay, M-Phazes..), before making his first official production in the U.S on Supastition's The Deadline EP (Soulspazm) a couple years later. In 2006, with the help of his friend Phinydee and Drink Water Music, Dela decides to take it to the next level, and starts working on his first album. In 2007, they release Atmosphere Airlines as a prelude to it. Only released in Japan and France, Atmosphere Airlines is a 20 tracks long mixtape, and includes exclusive tracks by Large Professor, J-Live, Blu, Torae, Finale, Apani B and more, all produced by Dela. Today, after more than 2 years of hard work, Changes Of Atmosphere is finally completed, and about to be released worlwide by Drink Water Music & Fat Beats Distribution. Mixing samples and live instrumentation, the album is a smooth, organic blend of Jazz, Soul and Boom Bap, with a modern twist to it. Talented guests, such as Talib Kweli, Les Nubians, Elzhi, Blu, Large Professor, J-Live, Termanology, Naledge and many more, join Dela to take us through a panorama of moods and lyrical topics. Much more than a simple compilation of songs, the tracklisting is deeply thought out, avoiding the mistakes often made on most producers' opuses. A refreshing change of atmosphere in the midst of the current Hip-hop releases.
