A SONIC EXPERIMENT by SPIRIT BEAR MEZCAL ENSEMBLE

The music contained on this record is an unedited excerpt from an evening of improvised live music fuelled by the mind-expanding properties of the Agave plant in it's Mezcal form. Limited to 100 copies only !Perfomed in LN-CC on 13.03.13, the evening consisted of three separate 45 minute improvised pieces, with a 15 minute break in between each piece, during which time there was the opportunity to sample a variety of Mezcals. Six primary Ensemble members were situated in the middle of the room in circular formation, with an outer circle of percussion instruments and microphones placed in various areas of the room. All present were encouraged to participate and join the circle. The initially clear divide between spectator and participator present in the first piece gradually dissolved as the Mezcal flowed, and by the final piece the musician / audience , spectator / participator barrier had successfully broken down to a level whereby the room was transformed into a unified musical energy. The recording is totally unedited a 25 minute excerpt from the third improvised piece. Virtually no alterations were made to the original recording at the mixing stage, aside from minor volume adjustments and EQs. Raw and honest, it presented to you in physical form as a ode to the power of shared musical experience and a reminder that there are a multitude of ways to engage with music in a shared public space beyond the "nightclub".
