RUSH HOUR SHOP TOP TIP

Here are some of the highlights of what we have in store for you this week.

First up is the 2021 repress of Detroit techno legend Robert Hood’s classic Floorplan debut ‘Funky Souls’, originally released on M-Plant subsidiary Drama twenty-five years ago and first reissued by Rush Hour in 2010. The new repress of this timeless dancefloor destroyer comes with new artwork.

Next up is a full album worth of synthetic dreamers by the genius that is CV Vision for Growing Bin, a hazy, spacey and sometimes lazy album that was directly transported from a strange parallel world.

Lucky number three is ‘Transdimensional Fuunk’, the new album by UK beatmaker and multi-instrumentalist Wonky Logic that sits between bruk, UK bass and hiphop beat tape territory somewhere.

Back in is the much-wanted ‘Suite For Ma Dukes’, the registration of the 2009 tribute to J Dilla by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and company and it’s still a beautiful thing.

Finally available: the full-length version of Twinkie Clark’s wonderful Detroit disco gospel anthem ‘Awake O Zion’, backed by the anthemic midtempo groover that is ‘Power’.

Back by dope demand is the classic 1991 debut album ‘Mr. Hood’ by the late great MF DOOM and his brother Subroc - a unique piece of hiphop history in an obi-wrapped triple colour vinyl pack.

Dollkraut is back but not looking for new friends with the tough-as-nails analog ass-whipping that is ‘Vuile Leugenaar’ (‘Filthy Liar’) on Viewlexx. Just keep walking if you’re looking for subtle stuff.

Bambounou hooks up with Bristol producer Bruce for the second installment of his Bambe imprint, going for a deep, deconstructed and infinitely detailed postmodern sound.

Number nine is another winner on Mr. Bongo in the form of a double A-side 45 that boasts both a fast-paced funky forro stepper by Josan and a laidback MPB groover by Bartô Galeno.

Last but most certainly not least is a beautiful meditation situation by Hugh Small (Vazz) and Brian Allen Simon (Anenon) that consists of ten ambientish compositions for piano, soprano saxophone, synthesizer and guitar. Lovely stuff to be floating on.
