Records that electrified us in week 16!

First up is ‘Epiliptix’, the great new Gifted & Blessed EP under his Abstract Eye moniker for Volcov’s Neroli imprint, three deep, dreamy, emotional and wonderfully accomplished electro excursions of the sort only GB can make.

Up next is Le Syndicat Electronique’s relentless new album for Mannequin, a collection of unreleased intensely dark rave wave tracks that were recorded over the last twenty years.

Many of us have been after a clean copy of K-Alexi’s classic but hard-to-find early Chicago house anthem ‘Essence of a Dream’ (recorded as Risqué III) for years. It’s now available in a lovely full picture sleeve edition courtesy of Dark Entries.

Vibraphone maestro Khan Jamal’s self-released 1984 album ‘Infinity’ is the sort of record we love to start our day with here. It features a killer line-up that includes Byard Lancaster and Sunny Murray.

Michael Paul’s ‘Reggae Music’ for Kalita is not exactly what it says on the tin, but an oddball hybrid of synthetic pop, electro, funk and reggae that’s hard to catch - both literally and figuratively speaking.

Bruk heavyweights Lord & Dego serve up four slices of discofied broken beat on their joyous new 2000 Black EP. Quality stuff as per usual.

‘Lua Ki Di Nos’ is a wonderful collection of Jose Carlos Schwarz & Le Cobiana’s best work - wonderful music from Guinee-Bissau.

Belarusian artist Fitzzgerald delivers the goods on Planet Trip in the form of five sweet synthy and sometimes housey Balearic boogie bumpers in assorted flavors. Tip!

‘Queen of Hearts’ is a tough early UK Britfunk boogie nugget on Diggers Dozen that’s waiting to be rediscovered by a new generation. File under ‘hot’.

Last but most certainly not least is Busta Rhymes’ 2020 album ‘Extinction Level Event 2’, that’s now finally out on vinyl. Wait, what? Busta Rhymes? Yes, Busta Rhymes. Bus-a-Bus. ‘Extinction Level Event 2’ has become somewhat of a Rush Hour crew cult favorite. Check out the hard-as-nails ‘Strap Yourself Down’ and the hyper-acrobatic Bell Biv Devoe-sampling ‘Outta My Mind’ to find out why.
