ELECTRIC BLUE by SHOEBOX

This is a 12” single by Shoebox, a previously unheralded blip on the electronic music continuum. They sometimes make music, but only when the moon is rising. Mostly, they bide their time, inhabiting the shadowy space at the back of the cupboard alongside out-of-date tins of food, unloved Christmas presents, forgotten records and misguided charity shop purchases.Electric Blue is their third hand-stamped record, and their first since 2013. It’s as dusty, fuzzy, musty, and intoxicating as their previous outings, shuffling between enveloping dancefloor voodoo and otherworldly downtempo beats. It contains five unlikely doses of off-kilter drum machine soul for horizontal joggers, wayward dancers and armchair ravers. The music contained within Electric Blue was created during sporadic Sunday night sessions spent hammering away on a well-worn MPC, mostly from beats, samples and melodies rediscovered in shoeboxes piled high with vintage zip disks.
