Description

Moody hypnotic house release with a punchy kick by spain's Jose RicoLondon calling is a funny and busy club based in Brussels which offers an interesting lineup of concerts, dj sets and live acts. The owners are real music lovers and decided to go one step beyond in supporting their passion. The result is Shubaka records. The first one by Jose Rico, a frequent guest at the London Calling parties, gives us a 4 track release showcasing his unmistakable style. The first track, "afofaifa" explores the rougher side of dance music. The acid line moves "in crescendo" building suspense and a certain agony until a sweet melody emerges and then, everything runs out smoothly. "Supernova" is a space anthem where pads, dark arpeggios, voices, and percussion interact harmonically. It could be the perfect soundtrack for the film 'Gravity'. "No name dub" is another of those obsessive tracks, which is his trademark. A slow house track with arpeggios used as textures, percussion with dry reverbs and melodies coming from some place of Orient. The last track is "12 bits", another downbeat track with black keys and a killer kick made with the Akai 950. The sequences breathe more than ever and the coloured tambourine is what sets the pace. This is "London calling", a solid first release but overall, the place to be.
