Russ Gabriel's musical endeavours began in 1990. In 1993 Russ founded the world famous Ferox label. His own music edged more towards the dancefloor with his too funk and fusion projects and a wealth of releases on labels such as GPR, Djax-Up-Beats, Soma, Peacefrog and Planet E. By the end of the 1990s, Russ's direction was firmly fixed on his fusion of organic funk and electronics. His continued quest for a new sound and his refusal to release anything less than quality has set him aside from most. Today, Russ continues to push for change in his music, from the samba to his much acclaimed Into The Unknown album, with increased use of percussion, strings and live instrumentation.
The other side project is Russs first album for Emoticon. Intended to showcase some of his more electronic productions - from heavy broken beat workouts to more jazzy affairs, with a respectful nod to old-school Detroit techno - the album is a diverse affair and should appeal to open-minded music lovers everywhere.
