Description

Repress from this jazzfunk album from 1975 featuring the classic title track, produced by Sonny Lester and featuring Ron Carter on bass !On his 8th LP, 1975's Afro-Desia, jazz organ virtuoso and George Benson Quartet alumni Lonnie Smith took an unexpected left-field turn with his sound. His Blue Note Records material had been characterized by the sharpness, and tightly arranged funk grooves, but on Afro-Desia his sound became freewheeling and introspective, with a heavier emphasis on genre-fusing. The end result was some of Smith's strongest works, filled with far-reaching landscapes of sounds, which took elements from Latin jazz, disco, and other genres. Smith was also joined by a potent cast of session musicians, including Miles Davis Quintet-veteran Ron Carter on electric bass, and an up-and-coming Joe Lovano on alto saxophone.
