“I’m all about the groove”, states Rick Wade in a recent interview. “The groove is what gives substance and soul to a track”.
But the deep house producer from Detroit is about harmonies too. Every single record he put out over the years bears his trademark chords and strings. It’s no coincidence that Rick Wade named his record label Harmonie Park after a city area in Detroit. Or actually Dan Bell did, with whom he started the label back in 1993.
Back then they were both working at Record Time, a Detroit hotspot for house, techno and bass records. Dan Bell was about to break his DBX project, while Rick Wade was busy hosting radio shows and making a career as a Detroit Bass & Ghetto-tech dj.
“One day I was preparing for my radio programme and had come to a dead end. I simply had no more records to complete the mix. But I did have a melody in my head and thought to myself: if only I had a record like that. So I set off with that idea in mind.”
