Six Chicago house tracks from Future Flash boss Perseus Traxx on this M>O>S release.
The 15th release for MOS Recordings and the last for 2011 comes from Future Flash boss and deepest house producer Perseus Traxx. With releases on labels like Bunker and Boe Recordings, the UK producer has earned himself a deserving reputation amongst 4/4 connoisseurs, and the six tracks he serves up here only confirm that.
Imbued with all the lessons learned from Chicago and Detroit’s output over the years, opener ‘Trying To Cut Free’ is a mid tempo groove thick with a vintage fog. Cutting through the hue are icy keys, sporadic claps and gently pinging cowbells whilst ‘Bittersweet Encounters’ is less dreamlike and more troubled; troubled by an acid bassline, busier ‘bells and more pixelated melodic colour.
‘Strength In The Security Of Love’ is reminiscent of Redshape’s future facing house melancholia, where the title track ‘Coded Emotion’ bounces with a livelier and more optimistic spring in its step. The subtle but lucid melodic colours which swirl throughout contrast beautifully with the more muddled, muggy bottom end before ‘What’s Your Side’ introduces a great vocal talent in the form of Lucy Barker.
Her delicate voices hangs faintly above scuffed, bumpy kicks for the track’s serene and Smallville Records referencing five and a half minutes before lively closer ‘My New Muse’ explores wide-open synth planes and eventually comes alive with an innocent, barley audible piano jam.
House music like this is made for the late night hours. Whether on headphones or in a club, it’s deeply immersive stuff which takes you to another place far far away…
